Motul Pirelli Suzuki Well Placed For Championship Assault

RACE REPORT
2011 Australasian Supercross Championship (Round Three)
Campbelltown (NSW)
5 November 2011

Team Motul Pirelli Suzuki is well placed for a tilt at both the Pro Open and Pro Lites Australasian Supercross Championship after a solid night of racing saw the team collect good points in both classes.

Round three of the Championship ran the “Triple Challenge” format with the Pro Open class competing over three x seven lap races, with five minutes in between, whilst the Lites class ran three x six lap races. The non-traditional format meant that good starts were the difference between win and lose.

In the premier Pro Open class, Team Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s Daniel McCoy was running the red plate in front of his home crowd after his debut victory at the previous round. The Suzuki pilot carded an 8-2-5 result but was hampered by poor starts in the first and third finals. Finishing fourth on the night, McCoy collected 18 points and now sits second in the Championship just one point off the lead.

Pro Open rookie Lawson Bopping put in an outstanding performance for Suzuki’s satellite race team, Team Raceline Pirelli Suzuki. Bopping claimed the win in the first final before rounding out the night with 5-2 finishes. Bopping placed second overall for the round and he now sits sixth in the Championship.

In the Pro Lites class, UK import Steven Clarke again showed plenty of speed despite only limited time on his RM-Z250. In the first final, Clarke got as high as second on the final lap before sliding out while protecting his line. It was a costly mistake that saw him relegated to eighth. Clarke then went 6-6 to finish fifth on the night. His 16 point haul has him fourth in the Championship, five points off third.

Team Motul Pirelli Suzuki Team Manager, Jay Foreman was upbeat about the weekend’s results. “It would have been nice to be on the podium for both classes, but we are still in a good position for both Championships. Both riders rode well so I am happy. The team is looking forward to Maitland which is our home race. We are hoping for good weather so we can push for a Championship.”

Round four of the Australasian Supercross Championship will take place at Maitland Oval next Saturday November 12, before the team heads north for the final round at Ipswich the following week.
