Josh Waters

Hailing from Mildura, Victoria, 24-year-old Josh Waters has his sights set firmly on an international career in 2011. The first assignment will be as a wild card entrant for the Yoshimura Racing team at the 2011 World Superbike opener at Phillip Island. Waters will continue as part of Team Suzuki competing in selected Australian Superbike rounds.

After claiming the 2009 Australian Superbike Championship in his rookie season, 2010 looked to be the year that Waters would establish himself on the international circuit.

After a strong start to the year, including a clean sweep of the second round of the Australian Superbike Championship, Waters secured a test with the AMA Rockstar Makita Suzuki factory outfit. An impressive test resulted in a call up to fill in for an injured rider mid-season. Unfortunately, a crash while testing sidelined the young champion and ruled him out for the majority of the 2010 season.

Waters racing fortitude was demonstrated by his strong return to racing when he claimed a race win at the Superbike support race at the Australian MotoGP. Yoshimura Japan President Fujio Yoshimura then handpicked Waters to represent the Yoshimura Racing team at the World Superbike opener.

In addition to his Superbike National Championship and 125GP National Championship the young Victorian also holds an incredible 24 Australian National Titles and over 60 State Titles from his dirt track background.

Waters started racing at age five and won his first National Title at age six. Waters got his first taste of road racing and international competition in 2000 when he contested the Malaysian round of the Underbone 110cc Asian Championship on a Suzuki. Competing against riders twice his age, the 13-year-old finished third, to make history as the youngest rider ever to stand on the podium at the Shah Alam circuit.

In 2001 Waters acquired his first 125GP bike and by 2003 had been crowned Australian 125GP Champion.

Waters joined Suzuki in 2007 competing in the Australian Supersport Championship aboard a Phil Tainton prepared GSX-R600. He finished third and second respectively in his first two years before stepping up to the Superbike in 2009.
